Much of the public, and many real estate practitioners, rely heavily on the metric of price-oer-square-foot when evaluating a home. While this can be useful when looking at homogeneous housing like tract developments, it can be problematic when assessing value in older, mixed and historic neighborhoods. A great example is Santa Fe's Historic Eastside. We see values in this small geographical area range from $200.00 to $900.00 a square foot. It is best to consult with your local real estate expert instead of putting too much emphasis on this arbitrary measure.
